The Dawnay Arms

The Dawnay Arms was built in 1779. It sits on the main road through Newton on Ouse, with a large garden to the rear, which stretches down to their moorings on the River Ouse.  Martel and Kerry Smith both come from Scarborough, though in recent years have been working in Leeds. They bought the pub at auction in May 2007, after a long search for the perfect pub. The Dawnay Arms had been closed for 18 months, and was in need of a lot of TLC, but the potential was still obvious. With invaluable help from family and friends, the pub was refurbished, and reopened in September 2007.
